Amazon expands operations in Ireland.

Amazon is expanding its e-commerce operations on the Emerald Isle.

The e-commerce giant will launch a new dedicated online store in Ireland in 2025, Amazon.ie. While many Irish consumers already shop at Amazon stores in other countries, the new Irish store will offer a localized shopping experience with a selection of over 100 million products, including products from Irish companies.

The planned site opening follows the launch of Amazon’s first Irish fulfillment center in Dublin in 2022, which has created 500 new jobs and provides seven-day-a-week delivery services across the country, including one-day delivery for hundreds of thousands of products. Customers will also be able to browse products with local prices and no additional customs duties.

Over 1,000 small and medium-sized Irish businesses already sell on Amazon. The new store will also be supported by a new five-year deal announced in 2023 by state-owned Irish postal service provider An Post and Amazon, which the online retailer says will provide more convenient and faster deliveries and returns.

Amazon already employs around 6,500 people in Cork, Dublin and Drogheda, Ireland, in roles including data engineers, operations management and finance. The company says it has invested more than $18 billion in Ireland since 2020. From the 2024-25 season, Ireland will also be able to watch UEFA Champions League matches on Prime Video.

“We already serve customers across Ireland, support over 1,000 local businesses selling on Amazon and are a significant employer in Ireland,” said Darragh Kelly, Amazon’s Ireland general manager of customer experience. “Our teams across the country are very excited about the next chapter of our story and look forward to delivering to our customers through our new Irish store in 2025.”

“The launch of Amazon.ie will be great news for Irish customers and we look forward to opening its virtual doors in 2025,” said John Boumphrey, Amazon country manager for Ireland and the UK. “This underlines our ongoing commitment to Ireland and will provide Irish customers with a wide range of high-value products with fast delivery, as well as providing great opportunities for Irish small and medium-sized businesses to reach a wider audience at home and abroad.”

Amazon opens operations in South Africa

This is followed by Amazon’s announcement of a dedicated Irish e-commerce site recent launch Amazon.co.za, the South African digital storefront, accessible via the Amazon shopping app or browser on a desktop or mobile computer.

The website allows customers in South Africa to browse and shop from a selection of local and international brands across 20 different product categories, with same-day and next-day delivery and multiple return options within 30 days of purchase.
