A federal judge is halting new U.S. rules limiting credit card late fees

A federal judge on Friday temporarily blocked the U.S. government’s attempt to limit credit card late fees, siding with banks and other business lobbyists who challenged the policy as unconstitutional.

The penalty cap was scheduled to go into effect next week, but a new ruling by U.S. District Judge Mark T. Pittman, a 2019 appointee of President Donald Trump, will prevent quick financial relief for millions of Americans who are behind on their bills.
